ConcernedApe Says Stardew Valley Will Be Getting Updates For Next 50 Years

While ConcernedApe has another game in the works, it seems like Stardew Valley is still the developer’s top focus. Stardew Valley is a seemingly forever-popular cozy sim game that has gamers farming, making friends, fighting monsters, and all the other usual cozy game shenanigans — and it was all made by one man, Eric Barone aka ConcernedApe.

According to an interview with NPR, ConcernedApe started making the game after he graduated from college, and he hasn’t stopped since — and likely never will. Stardew Valley was released in 2016 and has been going strong ever since. Over eight years later, ConcernedApe is still dropping updates, including a recently large 1.6 update that brought in even more players. And this is apparently not the last update — not even close.

ConcernedApe Confirms Stardew Valley Updates For a Lifetime

“I’ll Always Have the Desire To Come Back”

ConcernedApe has described Stardew Valley as a dream game. It’s the type of game he’s always wanted to play, and it doesn’t seem like he is ever planning to get sick of it. Not when it comes to playing it or updating it.

While speaking with NPR’s All Things Considered, the host brought up that he has previously said he felt a “sense of duty” to keep the game going. ConcernedApe agreed that he listens to fans and their criticisms and wants to give them the best experience possible. This is not due to wanting to sell more copies but because there are people out there who have “fallen in love” with the world he created.

ConcernedApe admitted that the game could have “too much content” at some point, which would cause him to stop, but he has no plans to give up on the game for now. In fact, he said that he will be adding “a thing or two” for the next 50 years.

He said:

“I like creating things. I don’t think I’m ever going to retire. I think it would be funny to release an update when I’m, like, 90 years old — if I live that long. Let’s hope.”

No word on Haunted Chocolatier in this interview, another cozy RPG that ConcernedApe has announced years back. However, there was recently confirmation that the game is still in the works.
