ConcernedApe Says He Might “Add A Thing Or Two” To Stardew Valley 50 Years From Now, But There Will Be An End At Some Point

In a lengthy interview with NPR, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone says that Stardew Valley could get new content 50 years from now, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be an end to the title. Stardew Valley is a highly acclaimed cozy title solo developed by ConcernedApe, also known as Eric Barone. Over the years, the title has only gained more and more traction, but even though Barone doesn’t want to “definitively close the book” on the title, he does know there is such a thing as too much content.

During the interview, Barone discusses how and where Stardew Valley all began, starting from when he had just graduated from college and was unable to find work. Barone set a goal to create a game that brought back memories from his childhood, such as Harvest Moon. Thus, Stardew Valley was born from the inspiration and drive of the solo developer.

Stardew Valley Will Always Be Close To Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone’s Heart

While There Will Be An End Someday, We Don’t Know How Soon That Will Be

Stardew Valley has been around for 12 years, and back in 2021, it almost came to an end when no updates had hit the title for quite some time. Little did fans know Barone was cooking up update 1.6 that brought so many beloved and new features to the game. During the interview, Barone stated, “I do take in a lot of what the fans are saying. I pay attention to what their thoughts are, what their criticisms are. And the players are very important to me.” Barone listens to the fan’s wants and needs and is known for getting bug fixes out quickly, even during the holidays.

The question about the future of Stardew Valley was asked, and Barone says that a game can have too much content, saying,

“I ultimately want Stardew Valley to be the best game it can be. So if I feel like it’s starting to become kind of overwhelmed with content to the point where it’s detrimental to the game’s entertainment factor, I would stop at that point.”

Barone goes on to mention that he does want to make more than one game, which would include his upcoming title Haunted Chocolatier.

Haunted Chocolatier Is Still In The Works, Barone Says

Though In Its Early Stages, The Game Is Coming

Haunted Chocolatier is Barone’s upcoming cozy title, slightly similar to Stardew Valley, but with its own set of quirks and spooky atmosphere. A little over a month ago, ConcernedApe shared an update on the development of the title, and while it is still very bare bones, he is working his hardest to get all of his ideas together and bring the game to life. The Stardew Valley 1.6 update took a lot of time away from Haunted Chocolatier, but he is back in action and developing both games.
